Rémy Newcastle United
Loïc Rémy, the Marseille striker, moved a step closer to joining Newcastle as Demba Ba's replacement on Monday when he reportedly rejected overtures from Harry Redknapp to sign for Queens Park Rangers.
Although other Premier League and Bundesliga clubs retain an interest in Rémy, Newcastle officials flew to the south of France over the weekend to negotiate a deal which could cost as much as £11m. A QPR delegation including Redknapp has also visited Marseille but the player's heart appears to be set on a future at St James' Park.
Although reports in France on Tuesday suggesting Remy had travelled to Tyneside to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical may have been premature, Newcastle aim to secure a deal sooner rather than later as they strive to pull clear of the relegation zone.
Alan Pardew is also exploring the possibility of bringing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the St Etienne forward, to Newcastle. Louise Taylor
N'Diaye Sunderland
Alfred N'Diaye is due to join Sunderland after the club agreed a fee with Turkey's Bursaspor for the France Under-21 defensive midfielder, understood to be about £2m. Renowned for his combative style, the 21-year-old, who can also play at centre-half, began his career in France with Nancy before moving to Turkey in the summer of 2011. On Monday he was believed to be flying to north-east England ahead of a medical and discussion of personal terms with Sunderland. Louise Taylor
Butcher Barnsley
Barnsley have been given permission to speak to the Inverness manager, Terry Butcher, about the vacancy at Oakwell. Sean O'Driscoll, surprisingly sacked by Nottingham Forest hours after their Boxing Day victory over Leeds, turned down the Barnsley job on Sunday and the club director Don Rowing said that interviews would resume at Oakwell in the next 48 hours. The Inverness chairman, Kenny Cameron, said: "We have given Barnsley FC permission to speak to Terry." PA
Boateng Fulham
Fulham are confident they will have reached agreement with Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk over the signing of Ghana's Derek Boateng by the time his participation at the Africa Cup of Nations draws to a close. The 29-year-old has undergone a medical at Fulham, who have secured a work permit for the much-travelled defensive midfielder, with talks ongoing between the clubs. A fee of about £2m has been mooted to secure a player who cost more than double that when joining Dnipro from Getafe back in 2011, but has since fallen out of favour with opportunities limited. Balotelli Napoli
Napoli's president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, would prefer to see Mario Balotelli partner Edinson Cavani at the San Paolo than consider selling his star striker to Manchester City. "City are considering letting Balotelli go so they can move for Cavani? I would prefer to see Balotelli playing with Cavani here at Napoli," he said. PA
